What to know about James Avery’s heart ring
James Avery was a fixture in the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup for nearly two decades.
He had a big impact on many players as he hit over 30 home runs and won three MVP awards, but his best years were the years when he hit .300 or better.
He has been inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
He is the recipient of three “Heart of the City” Awards from the American League.
In 2014, Avery won the National League batting title and also finished third in MVP voting.
He finished the year with more home runs than anyone in baseball history, and he hit his fourth career grand slam on Sept. 23, 2019, a game-tying shot to beat the Cincinnati Reds.
He became the first Dodger to win the National Association’s batting title.
In his MVP year, he batted .320 and set a new record with 719 hits, and the Dodgers won the World Series.
Avery’s career batting average is .319.
